"Cold Hands or Cold Feet."
July 09, 2008 by Mike StrawbridgeUnder certain conditions, the body reacts to restrict blood flow to the extremities and pull the resources in to the inner core. Often this effect is the result of the flight or fight reflex.
However it can also be the result of other emotions. Often this effect is expressed when a person has the desire to reach out and touch something but for some reason he feels that he cannot or does not deserve it.
The old expression of "Getting Cold Feet" before a wedding is probably derived from this phenomena. If a person desires to get married but for some reason they feel they do not deserve it they may experience the effect of cold or numb feet.
The bodies expression of cold hands or feet may also be the expression of wanting something and not wanting it at the same time. This inner conflict is expressed in the hands or the feet in a restriction of blood flow to these areas.
Often a severe expression of the body reacting to reaching for something that the mind feels it does not deserve is carpel tunnel syndrome. Here the person's body reacts to literally cause pain when one reaches to pick up something that the mind feels that person should not have.
While carpel tunnel syndrome is normally related to repetitive motion injuries, a look in to how someone feels about the repetitive motions may be helpful in the treatment process. It could also help to explain why some people experience carpel tunnel syndrome and others do not while performing the same tasks.
If you find your body expressing cold hands you need to take a look at your feelings. Look at what you may have been conditioned to avoid. Maybe you are reaching for something you feel you do not deserve or have been prohibited form having by some old belief system. While you may have consciously forgotten what it is you were taught to avoid, your body remembers and expresses the reminder from your subconscious.
Take a look at your fears and belief systems. Once you believe that you are allowed to have what you are reaching for and feel that you do truly deserve to have your desires, you body will no longer find the need to protect you by pulling blood from your hands and feet.
